Who Knew Commitment Was the Magic Spell Against Nightmares?

Once upon a teenage fever dream, I was constantly being chased by a giant. Not a metaphorical one. Like, an actual towering, human-shaped titan stomping through chaos while people screamed and ran for their lives — standard nightmare programming.
Every version of the dream went the same: I’d be walking down some road minding my own business when BAM — hysteria. People running, cars crashing, buildings crumbling (probably), and there he is. The Giant. Looking like he just clocked into his shift on Terrorize Dia: Volume 84.
And just my luck? He’s looking for me.
It didn’t matter where the dream was set — a familiar street, a strange town, somewhere out of a zombie apocalypse — it always ended the same way: me, breathless, heart racing, running for dear life because apparently I’m the giant’s main character.
And then one day… it stopped.
No epic showdown. No grand finale. Just poof — gone.
The timing? Right after I got married.
Coincidence? I think not.
I mean, it kind of makes sense. Back when I was younger, maybe the giant was my subconscious throwing a tantrum. Maybe it was all the pressure of growing up, trying to be “someone,” dealing with people’s expectations, or just surviving the emotional rollercoaster of youth without pulling a full-blown K-drama fainting scene.
And when I got married — when I finally chose my own path, built a life, maybe even started trusting myself more — the giant packed up and went home. Retired. Found peace. Possibly joined a yoga retreat in Bali. I don’t know, he doesn’t text.
Now? My chaos doesn’t involve stampeding crowds or giants — just parrots screaming like banshees at sunrise, dogs acting like they pay rent, and a monkey who thinks he runs the whole show. Honestly, I miss the giant. He was quieter.
So here’s to personal growth:
From being chased by existential dread in monster form…
To being chased by dogs who think they run this house.
We love to see it.
