Weathering the Storm: Typhoon Crising Brings Heavy Rains and Flooding Across the Philippines

As Typhoon Crising continues to enhance the southwest monsoon, communities across the Philippines are once again facing the familiar challenges of torrential rain, flooding, and disrupted routines. Over the past 24 hours, various regions—including parts of Luzon, Negros Occidental, and even metro centers like Cebu City—have reported significant flooding, road closures, and evacuation efforts.
Locally, our own subdivision is seeing larger-than-usual puddles and areas of standing water, making travel around the neighborhood a cautious affair. The floodwaters not only inconvenience daily life but also complicate personal matters. For us, the hope of finding Septer, our 3-legged cat who ran away some time ago, seems to fade with each new downpour. Each large puddle feels like another barrier, making any search efforts more difficult—and making us worry even more for his safety.
The impact of the weather has also meant changes in our routine. For instance, Saturday yoga—normally a highlight of the weekend—has been skipped as a precaution. With the forecast calling for continued heavy rainfall, and lingering issues with our roof still unresolved, staying home to monitor for any leaks or water intrusion has become a priority.
These recent events are a reminder of how quickly plans and priorities can change in the face of nature. While we all hope for clear skies and a return to normal soon, safety remains the most important consideration. For those in affected areas, it’s wise to keep updated with PAGASA bulletins, take extra care when venturing outdoors, and look out for one another—especially neighbors who may need extra assistance.
As the rainy season continues, we encourage everyone in the community to stay vigilant, make necessary preparations, and reach out if you or someone you know needs help. Here’s hoping for better weather ahead, and that our missing feline friend somehow finds his way home.
Stay safe, everyone.
