The House Is Mine… But Where’s My Key?

Today was supposed to be a milestone—finally getting the keys to the house we had officially purchased. The bank emailed me, confirming that the turnover was happening today, and all I had to do was go to the property and collect the key from the caretakers. Simple, right?
Wrong.
We wasted no time. Ken even tagged along. But the excitement quickly faded when we arrived and were met with resistance.
The caretakers refused to leave.
Yes, you read that right—they refused to leave our house.
Their excuse? They needed two more months despite admitting they had already received a notice to vacate a week ago. I wasn’t about to entertain that nonsense. I told them they had two more days, not months. That’s when things escalated—the couple started screaming at us!
Rather than engage, I walked away and called the bank for backup. And guess what? No one answered. So there I was, standing outside my legally owned property, keyless and dumbfounded.
Frustrated, we left and went straight to the bank. Turns out, they had no clue the caretakers were still there. They assured me they would handle it.
Naturally, my next call was to my lawyer. His response? The bank needs to get its act together and fix this.
So now we wait. Let’s see how long it takes for the bank to deliver on its promise.
