Ken Did Good in His First Grading

Ken got home days ago and handed me a note. It was an invitation letter from their teacher to come on August 22nd to celebrate the exceptional academic performance of the students and that Ken was one of those who will be receiving a certificate! In short, he’s with honors!

I was beaming with pride as I hugged him afterwards. I know how hard he’s worked to get his grades up. Ralph has been tremendously putting pressure on him when it comes to his school subjects with line of eight marks in the past. So have I. His weakness has always been the Filipino subject which was confusing to me because I have always done good with Filipino back when I was in high school!

I’m really not so sure what Ken would want to take up in college but if it were up to us, we would, of course like any parents would want, that he takes up medicine so we could have our very own Dr. Navarro someday! But the way I see it, he’s been fascinated with graphics design and music — two of the things I know nothing about! He’s been spearheading the design for their class’ intramural t-shirts since last year, and as far as I know, he’s been producing really good soundtracks lately. In fact, one of his friends had to pay him for that! I mean how cool is that? I can’t remember making any money from a hobby when I was his age!

He’s going to go to University of St. La Salle for college, that I’m sure of because we have already talked about it. He’s only on Grade 10th and will still go through Grades 11 and 12 so he still has ample time to figure out and decide on what he really wants to do with his life. I just pray and hope that he chooses the right one for him, one that will make him successful and at the same time, what he truly wants! We’re just here to guide him along the way.
