A Love Letter to My 14-Year-Old Generator

You’ve been with us since the days when buying you was a leap of faith. Back then, we didn’t have much in savings — just a desperate need to survive my love-hate relationship with Noceco when I was still living in Hinigaran. You were born out of necessity, not luxury… and yet, you became one of the most memorable purchases of my life.

Fourteen years later, you’re still here — battered, noisy, and a little dilapidated, but loyal to the core. Through storms, power outages, and endless nights of “please start just one more time”, you’ve never failed me. Even now, as I listen to your vibrations for the fifth straight day of this Negros Power blackout (because apparently, our area is last on their re-energization list 😅), I can’t help but feel proud. You’ve outlived expectations.

But it’s time. You deserve a proper rest in our Bacolod house — not because you’re broken (you’re not), but because you’ve earned your peace. A new diesel generator has just joined the family, and I can only hope it serves me as faithfully as you have. If it can outlive, or at least match, your 14-year legacy… then I’ll call that a win.

Thank you for lighting up our lives — literally — and for keeping us sane through every blackout and brownout saga. You were more than just a machine. You were the heartbeat of the house.

Rest well, my old friend. You’ve powered enough chaos for one lifetime.
