Divine Intervention: The Day Fire Almost Took Our House!

Some days, life throws you a curveball. Other days, it hurls a full-on fireball your way—literally.

It all started with what was supposed to be a routine day. We had scheduled our pick-up truck for another attempt at fixing that stubborn check engine issue at BLB. This time, they even called in a specialist all the way from Iloilo—yes, someone had to cross the sea just to tame our truck’s never-ending tantrum.

After dropping off the truck, we took a cab to Gardenville Subdivision to check on the progress of the carpenters working on our fixer-upper house. Our cab driver, Manuel, is one of our old-time trusted drivers, so the ride was smooth, just like old times.

When we arrived, the carpenters were busy working on the roof. The electrician had the day off, so it was just the carpenters handling things. No big deal, right? Until… BOOM.

The Explosion That Made My Heart Drop

One of the carpenters must have completely forgotten about the temporary power line running along the roof because, next thing I knew, explosions started erupting like firecrackers!

At first, I thought it would stop after a second—like, maybe just a little spark or a minor short circuit. But no. The loud popping noises kept going, and the panic level shot up like crazy. Then one of the carpenters shouted at me:

“Ma’am, tawagi ang Bureau of Fire!!!” (Call the Bureau of Fire!!!)

That’s when reality hit me—this was serious. This wasn’t just a minor spark. It was fire, electrical sparks, and a whole lot of panic in the air.

I froze for a moment, then full-on panic mode activated! My brain was already calculating all the ways this could go horribly wrong:

  • Was the fire spreading?
  • Was the entire roof about to go up in flames?
  • Were we about to lose the entire house we just bought??

God’s Perfect Timing

And then, the miracle happened.

You see, right in front of our house live two members of Negros Power. And guess what? They just happened to be absent from work that day!

If they had gone to work like usual, we would have been screwed. But instead, they were right there, ready to jump in and save the day. Within minutes, they sprang into action and cut off the power before the fire could get any worse.

The damage? Minimal, but costly (because let’s be honest, nothing about electrical repairs is cheap).
The real win? The fire didn’t burn down the entire small house!

Lessons, Gratitude, and One Wild Story to Tell

Looking back, I still can’t believe how everything played out. It was a near disaster, but also a reminder of how God works in mysterious ways. Who would have thought that the very people we needed would be right there, at the right time, doing the right thing?

So, what did I learn?
✔️ Never underestimate temporary power lines.
✔️ Carpenters should always double-check before drilling near electrical wiring.
✔️ Negros Power employees are now officially my favorite neighbors.
✔️ God’s timing is always perfect.

That day, we may have lost some money on repairs, but what truly mattered? We still have our home and no one got injured.
